Existential & Spiritual Therapy
“Out beyond ideas…, there is a field. I'll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about. Ideas, language, even the phrase 'each other' doesn't make any sense.”
-Rumi
Exploring the extraordinary, the mysterious, and the deeply human.
Sometimes life brings us experiences that profoundly alter our understanding of ourselves and the world. They may arise through loss, spiritual awakening, a near-death experience, or an unexpected encounter with something that seems to transcend our ordinary understanding of reality.
Such experiences can be deeply meaningful, even transformative. Yet they can also leave us feeling disoriented, isolated, or uncertain about how to integrate what has happened into the life we once knew.
Perhaps you've struggled to find someone with whom you can speak openly about your experience, without fear of judgment, dismissal, or having its meaning explained away.
I offer a compassionate, grounded, and open-minded therapeutic space where these experiences can be explored with curiosity and respect, without needing to arrive at any particular conclusion about their ultimate nature.
Thresholds Into Existential & Spiritual Exploration
There are many doorways into existential and spiritual inquiry. Sometimes the journey begins with a quiet longing for something deeper. At other times, an unexpected experience changes the way we understand ourselves, our lives, or the nature of reality itself.
You may be seeking support around:
Near-death experiences (NDEs) and their emotional, psychological, or spiritual aftermath
Spiritually transformative experiences that have changed your understanding of yourself or reality
Mystical experiences, spiritual awakenings, or profound feelings of interconnectedness
Unusual or anomalous experiences that are difficult to explain or share with others
Experiences understood as memories of previous lives
Experiences surrounding death, dying, grief, or the loss of a loved one
Psychedelic or altered-state experiences seeking psychological integration
Existential anxiety, questions about mortality, or changes in your sense of meaning and purpose
A longing for deeper presence, authenticity, or connection with life
Curiosity about consciousness, identity, and the deeper nature of being
You do not need to identify with any particular spiritual tradition or belief system to explore these experiences in therapy. Whatever has brought you here, your experience deserves to be met with openness, care, and respect.
Integrating Near-Death & Spiritually Transformative Experiences
A near-death experience or other profound encounter with the extraordinary can leave a lasting imprint on one's life.
For some, these experiences bring a deepened sense of peace, love, or connection. For others, they may evoke fear, confusion, grief, or a sense of estrangement from ordinary life. Sometimes both are present.
You may find yourself questioning beliefs you once held, struggling to communicate what happened, or feeling that something fundamental has changed within you while the world around you remains the same.
Relationships, priorities, and even your sense of identity may begin to shift. You might feel drawn toward a new understanding of life while simultaneously grieving aspects of the life you knew before.
Integrating such experiences is not necessarily about finding a definitive explanation. It may be about discovering how to live with what has been revealed, questioned, or transformed.
Therapy can offer a place to gently explore these changes, attend to the emotions and questions that arise, and discover how your experience might find a meaningful place within the ongoing unfolding of your life.
My approach honors the significance of these experiences without imposing a particular spiritual or psychological interpretation. Together, we can explore not only what the experience means to you, but how it may be shaping your relationships, identity, values, and way of being in the world.
Exploring the Deeper Nature of Being
The poet Rumi evokes a field beyond our familiar ideas and divisions, a place of meeting that cannot easily be captured in words.
His poetry has always moved me. It speaks to something that the logical mind cannot quite grasp, yet that may resonate with a deep, intuitive sense of recognition.
Perhaps you, too, have sensed something beneath the familiar movements of thought, emotion, and identity. A quiet awareness, a feeling of interconnectedness, or an intuition that life holds dimensions of meaning not easily reduced to what can be seen or measured.
Or perhaps this sense of something more expansive emerged suddenly, through loss, crisis, spiritual awakening, or a profound experience that opened your understanding of reality.
Whether this exploration begins through curiosity or through an experience you never anticipated, it can invite questions about who we are, what gives life meaning, and how we might live in a more authentic relationship with ourselves and the world.
I am honored to offer a respectful space for this kind of inquiry, where your unique expression of Self is welcomed and allowed to emerge in its own time.
What Is Existential & Spiritual Psychotherapy?
Existential and spiritual inquiry often begins when our familiar understanding of ourselves or our lives starts to loosen.
This may happen gradually, through questions about identity, purpose, and belonging, or more abruptly through loss, transition, or an experience that challenges our assumptions about reality.
At times, this can be accompanied by anxiety, uncertainty, or a sense of disconnection. At other times, it may bring wonder, expanded awareness, or a profound feeling of connection with something larger than ourselves.
Traditional psychotherapy offers important ways of understanding thoughts, emotions, relationships, and behavior. Existential and spiritual psychotherapy also makes room for questions of meaning, consciousness, mortality, interconnectedness, and the nature of being.
Rather than approaching these questions as problems that must be resolved, we can meet them as meaningful dimensions of human experience, allowing space for ambiguity, reflection, and discovery.
Beyond Ego: Nondual & Transpersonal Awareness
Within nondual and transpersonal perspectives, there is an invitation to explore experience not only through our personal history, identity, and familiar narratives, but also through the awareness in which these arise.
This does not mean rejecting the ego or dismissing our psychological needs. Our sense of self serves an important purpose, helping us navigate relationships, responsibilities, and the world around us.
Yet we may also discover that our thoughts, emotions, roles, and conditioned patterns do not encompass the entirety of who we are.
Through gentle attention, we can begin to notice a more spacious relationship with experience, one in which even difficult feelings can be met with curiosity and compassion.
In this sense, therapy becomes not only a process of healing but also an exploration of being. There may be moments when the need to define, control, or understand everything softens, allowing a different relationship with uncertainty, presence, and life itself.

How I Work
My approach is spacious, collaborative, and responsive to the uniqueness of each person's experience.
Rather than imposing a fixed framework, I begin with what is present for you. Together, we pay careful attention to your emotions, personal history, relationships, bodily sensations, and the subtle ways meaning and understanding emerge.
My work draws from existential, transpersonal, and depth-oriented psychotherapy, integrating contemplative wisdom traditions with experiential and awareness-based approaches, including Gestalt therapy, mindfulness, and nondual inquiry.
I hold an MA in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Integral Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, where my graduate training included Transpersonal Psychotherapy and Psychosynthesis. My ongoing engagement with contemplative traditions, including the Diamond Approach, continues to inform my clinical perspective.
I believe that psychological healing and spiritual exploration need not be separate endeavors. Both can invite us into a more compassionate and authentic relationship with ourselves, with others, and with the mystery of being human.
Sometimes our work may involve making sense of an extraordinary experience. At other times, it may mean tending to grief, fear, confusion, or the ordinary challenges of living in a world that feels different than it once did.
There is no particular realization you need to reach, no spiritual perspective you need to adopt, and no prescribed way your experience needs to unfold.
We begin wherever you are.
I provide therapy via video to residents who live in the San Francisco Bay Area or anywhere in California.
